Remembering -The Legend, our Friend
Robert W. Smith
The music world lost a legend on September 21, 2023 with the passing of Robert W. Smith. Robert was “one of the most popular and prolific composers of concert band and orchestral literature in America.. He has over 600 publications in print with the majority composed and arranged through his long association with Warner Bros. Publications.” Robert served as a Trustee for the HSBDNA.
His life was identified by his love of music, his dedication to his craft, and his many roles. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and his children, Madison W. Smith, and Savannah Cole.
He will be remembered for his incredible accomplishments, his captivating music, and his kind spirit. The music world has lost a giant, and his legacy will never be erased.
Robert was my friend since 1976. We were band mates at Troy State University. Truly a gifted musician and person, he was always willing to help guide young composers and students.
I will miss you my friend.
