Lewis Jones


F. Lewis Jones is the former Executive Director of the Florida Bandmasters Association. Prior to this service he served as the director of bands for the famed Leon High School of Tallahassee from 1966-1978. Prior to this service he was the director at Vigor High School (Alabama) and Greensboro High School (Florida). He is a co-recipient of the MAC Award presented by the First Chair of America as one of the two outstanding band directors in 1976. He is a twice recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contributor to Music Education by Phi Beta Mu. In 1995 he was elected into the Florida Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame and in 1997 was named into the Florida Music Educators Association Hall of Fame. During his career as a band director, his bands were consistently rated superior in marching, concert, jazz and solo/ensemble performances at district and state festivals. He has been a clinician and conductor of district honor bands in Florida and Georgia as well as an adjudicator for for concert bands in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.
