Matt Brown earned the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree from Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. He is a conductor, composer, arranger and adjudicator of music. His bands have won numerous honors and awards in various local, state, national and international contests and festivals. Some of these include: South Carolina State Marching Band Band AAA Champions; Southern Contest of Champions; the Lord Mayor's New Years Day Spectacular in London, England, the Orange Blossom festival (Orlando, Florida); Southern Contest of Champions (South Carolina); the South Carolina Governor’s Conference; the South Carolina State Marching Band Championships; the Liberty Bowl (Memphis, Tennessee); and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. He is a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators and Past President of the Percussive Arts Society (South Carolina Chapter). He has been recognized as a member of Who's Who Among Outstanding Young Men of America and Who's Who Among Outstanding America's Teachers. In 1992 he was selected as a finalist for the York School District Teacher of the Year. In 1994 he was named "Duke of York" by the City of York. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. He received the Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision from Winthrop University in 1998. He presently serves as the Principal of Cotton Belt Elementary School in York, South Carolina.
