Edwin R Watkins
Edwin R. Watkins served as the band director for the Tallassee High School Band (Alabama) from 1950 until 1987. “The Colonel”, as he was known by his students and loved ones, remember him not only for his legendary length of service, but for his stern discipline and quality musicianship. A graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and World War ll Veteran, he was a graduate of the University of Alabama.
During his 37 year span as director of the famed Tallassee band program, he wrote the drill and music for over 220 different halftime shows during his career and his bands rated superior in multiple marching and concert areas. His legacy looms large over the modern-day "Pride of Tallassee" bands.
